Project Duration: 2022 – present

Type of Project: Internal R&D

This project conducts a strategic analysis of the CCUS potential in Portugal. It involves a comprehensive mapping of potential industrial clients and sectors, evaluating their suitability for CCUS adoption. For each sector, alternative decarbonization technologies are identified and compared against CCUS in terms of feasibility, cost, and impact.

The analysis includes a market sizing exercise to estimate the total addressable and serviceable market for CCUS technologies across Portugal. Special focus is placed on identifying synergies between CO2 utilization and the country’s hydrogen development roadmap. The project also examines the competitive landscape – profiling key players, comparing their strategic advantages and weaknesses, and assessing how Net4CO2 can differentiate itself.

Sectoral Review of Decarbonization Pathways: Comprehensive analysis of decarbonization options available for each key industrial sector in Portugal, including technical feasibility and maturity levels.

Company-Level Decarbonization Strategy Assessment: Detailed study of major Portuguese industrial players, examining their current and planned approaches to emissions reduction, including alignment with CCUS potential.

Evaluation of CCUS as a Decarbonization Route: In-depth assessment of the role of Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage as a viable solution for industrial decarbonization, including sector-specific fit, cost-effectiveness, and implementation challenges.

Analysis of External Market Influences on CCU: Identification and evaluation of international market trends, regulatory frameworks, and technological developments that could influence the adoption and competitiveness of CCU technologies in Portugal.
