Project Duration: 2025

The BSc research project aims to characterise and refine the storage capacity of identified (potential) subsurface CO2 storage sites on the Alentejo Basin (SW Iberia). Utilising 2D and 3D seismic reflection data, detailed mapping of the subsurface reservoir and immediate seals units to produce morphological surface maps. These will provide the base for seismic attribute analysis to identify subsurface structural and stratigraphic character, aiming to provide insights on intra-unit heterogeneities and compartmentalization potential. A key output will be the volume estimation of storage potential under a set of varying complexity scenarios.

With this project, it is expected for the student to develop scientific and technical capabilities on the use of seismic data, and its applicability to subsurface storage strategies.
