Project Description

The ALGEMAR Project research raises the aims to have a significant impact on the achievement of deep-sea sandy deposits as potential UGS. This can be carried out based on the previous gained knowledge from the multidisciplinary integrated researchers and promoting the internationalization works from the creation of a team.

Definition of facies models for distinguishing contourites and mixed deposits from the sedimentary record at different scales, especially focusing on sandy deposits.

Imaging and characterization of contourite and mixed deposits using seismic methods and geophysical well logging

Determination of sedimentary processes and depositional environments.

Correlation of geophysical and sedimentological data: Cyclicity analysis, Multiproxy approaches, sedimentary processes and control factors.

Achivement of the implications of the Miocene evolution of the Guadalquivir and Rifian corridors on the development of sandy deposits and the temporal and spatial variations of the Mediterranean-Atlantic exchange.

Identification, geological characterization and risk analysis of these formations with the integration of rock property models as potential UGS.

Geological and geophysical database offshore Portugal.
Different levels of CO2 storage resources.
