Project Description

This consulting project aims to find effective ways to reduce CO₂ emissions from a kiln at the Avintes facility. It involves evaluating advanced CO₂ capture technologies, including their requirements and limitations, and consulting with technology providers to ensure practical application. The project also explores how to integrate energy and material flows between the kiln and the chosen technology. A techno-economic and life cycle assessment will compare the proposed solutions. Finally, it examines options for storing or using the captured CO₂, ensuring the solution is technically, economically, and environmentally sustainable.

Screening of CO₂ Capture Technologies and Limitations: A detailed review of current capture technologies, including capture efficiencies, concentration constraints, operational challenges, and compatibility with flue gas characteristics.

Characterization and Identification of Potential Solutions: Assessment of the furnace emissions and process parameters to identify suitable pre-treatment and capture solutions tailored to site-specific conditions.

Development of Integrated Solution: Design of a combined system for flue gas pre-treatment and CO₂ capture, optimized for implementation at the kiln with consideration of site constraints and performance requirements.

Techno-Economic and Life Cycle Assessment (TEA & LCA): Quantitative analysis of the selected solution, including cost estimation, energy impact and environmental footprint.

Comprehensive Flue Gas Cooling Strategy: Engineering study of flue gas cooling options, with particular attention to acid gas condensation and corrosion control, supporting efficient capture system integration.

Business Model for Captured CO₂: Development of use-case scenarios and economic models for the captured CO₂, including potential partnerships, valorization routes, and storage options.
